What makes ColorVu different from standard IR cameras?

Traditional infrared night vision works by flooding the scene with invisible IR light, which the camera sensor reads as monochrome footage. The result is the classic grainy black-and-white night image that makes identifying faces, clothing colours and vehicle colours extremely difficult.

ColorVu cameras take a completely different approach. The combination of an F1.0 large-aperture lens (which lets in significantly more light), an ultra-sensitive image sensor, and warm white supplemental LEDs means the camera captures vivid colour detail in conditions where a standard camera would switch to IR. The warm LED light is subtle — noticeable but not blinding — and produces footage that looks more like daylight than floodlight.

In practical terms: A person in a red jacket looks red at night. A silver car is identifiable as silver. A number plate is readable in colour context. This dramatically increases the evidentiary value of footage and makes identifying suspects far more reliable.
